Velayudha Aattam

Velayudha Aattam is a traditional Tamil folk dance inspired by warrior legacy, also known as Velayudhan (the carrier of the celestial spear). This dance is a symbolic retelling of Murugan's victory over evil powers, particularly the demon Soorapadman, and is done using vel (spear), stylized gestures, and powerful footwork.
The dance depicts bravery, dharma (righteousness), and devotion through strategic movements, weapon wielding, and dramatic narration. It is an effective means of spiritual expression and cultural celebration, particularly during holidays such as Skanda Shasti, Thaipusam, and Panguni Uthiram.
At Carolina Tamil Kalaikkoodam(CTK), Velayudha Aattam is taught as both an artistic performance and a cultural discipline, combining mythology, dance, and self-confidence.
