Garagattam - The Art of
Balance and Devotion
"Where rhythm meets reverence, and movement honors tradition."

Garagattam
Garagattam is one of the most engaging and memorable Tamil folk dances, historically performed to worship the goddesses Mariamman and Durga, who symbolize rain, fertility, and protection. The dance features artists carrying decorated pots (Garagam) on their heads while moving gracefully and rhythmically.
The pots frequently contain flowers, neem leaves, and even fire, demonstrating the focus, control, and balance. The performance is usually accompanied by folk instruments like as nadaswaram, thavil, and parai, which creates an exciting mood.
Garagattam is taught at Carolina Tamil Kalaikkoodam (CTK) as both a dance form and a spiritual and cultural experience, linking students to the rich storytelling and tradition under each movement..
