Thudumbattam – The Pulse of
Tamil Folk Rhythms
"Where rhythm meets reverence, and movement honors tradition."

Thudumbattam
A ancient drum known as the Thudumbu is used in the high-energy Tamil Nadu folk dance and percussion performances known as "Thudumbattam." "Attam" signifies dance, while "Thudumbu" describes a percussion instrument that creates deep, resonating beats. A lively and energizing performance that unites music and movement is produced by dancers playing the drum while making dynamic body movements.
Thudumbattam, a dance traditionally performed at temple festivals, village meetings, and processions, represents the Tamil community's enthusiasm, strength, and jubilation. The coordinated rhythm and footwork create a musical and visual masterpiece.
At Carolina Tamil Kalaikkoodam (CTK), we help students master thudumbattam’s dance elements.and drumming methods, carrying this traditional folk form to life.
